To further address the poverty problem and ensure peace and security, citizens need to be empowered through education. Kenya Government introduced Free Primary Education (FPE) in 2002. This led to a significant rise in National enrollment rates in primary schools from 93% in 2002 to 107.7% in 2007. However, a number of children from poorer families remain out of school due to the prevailing Unemployment, Poverty and Hunger. Some of these children are subjected to Child Labour, and abuses by their families in an attempt to make ends meet.
In addition, most schools remain inadequate in terms of Classrooms, Equipments, Feeding Programs, and Staff. HOYWIK therefore aims to support programs that enhance access to literacy and improve academic performance in public institutions such as Primary and Secondary Schools and Vocational Training Centers. Priority will be given to institutions with poor facilities such as Mud-walled Classrooms, Insufficient Latrines, and lack of Clean Water e.t.c.
It has also been established that young people with at least primary education are less likely to contract HIV and AIDS than those with no education. Universal Educational is therefore essential in helping prevent new infections.
This area focuses on Education and attainment of universal education.
The Strategic Objective of the HOYWIK Education Program is to support programs that enhance access and improve Academic performance in Primary Schools, Secondary, Filming School and Vocational Trainings. These will be geared towards improving poor facilities such as Mud-walled Classrooms, insufficient Latrines, School Feeding Programs, and lack of Clean Drinking Water among others.
Implementation Strategy
HOYWIK will seek funding support to focus on the supply of learning materials, School Uniforms, Construction or renovation of the Classrooms, Equipping Laboratories, Workshops, Toilets, Teachers Training, Power connection and provide Sponsorship to bright students from needy families to pursue Secondary and Higher Education.
